Milepebbles…

Connor is starting to be able to track things with his eyes….noticed him following my face with his eyes as I moved around him yesterday! He’ll even turn his head, albeit a bit jerkily from time to time. And the little guy sure is filling out! When we weighed him this morning, he was nearly 12 lbs! He sure looks it too - starting to get the same chubby cheeks his brother Braden had, and his arms and legs are definitely showing signs of chub. What a little porker! Heheee.

Braden’s latest thing is starting off his sentences with, “It’s this…” before launching into an explanation about anything….

Ariel is nearly 5′7″, and still shorter than me & Jen, although she appears taller than me when I’m standing next to her. When did my little girl grow up??

The table tennis league is coming to a close soon - we have one of our final matches tomorrow afternoon, and still in contention for the top 3. The director called me last night & told me that it’s possible for us to finish in the top 4 and get a trophy. That would be a great ending but not very likely, IMO. That’s not to say we won’t try our hardest!

And since TT league will be ending, I was thinking about taking up another activity for the summer, this time, possibly Ultimate Frisbee. I’ve always enjoyed playing, and thanks to an Arsian who started a thread about Ultimate, I looked into possible play here in LR, and found that a group will be meeting 2x a week to play. So I may go out & give that a shot & see how that goes!

Exceedingly well done

So my boss drops by my cubicle early Tuesday afternoon and asks me if I’m available to go down to Jackson, Mississippi with him that afternoon. We’d be staying overnight, meeting with some clients first thing Wednesday morning, and then driving back Wednesday afternoon. I didn’t have anything pressing at the time, so I told him I was free. I had to scramble to get everything ready for our trip (including getting our data/results on the laptop, going home & packing, & making sure we had a rental car & hotel reservations), but we managed to leave town before close of business.

I tell you what, there’s nothing to spur you into action faster than trying to get ready for a trip at the last minute. One moment, I’m sitting contentedly at my computer, working carefully on a project, and the next, I’m in full-blown Panic Headless Chicken Mode ™. We managed to reach Vicksburg, MS by 9pm that night and had a nice dinner at a Cajun restaurant downtown (the only place we could find open that didn’t start with Mc, Burger, or Taco). And made it to Jackson by 10:30pm, just in time to go to bed so we could get up at 7am the next morning.

Again, we do eat well on my trips, and was treated to lunch at Walnut Hills - a family style restaurant that makes the best southern food east of the Mississippi Dining there makes the drive down there all worth the while. In fact, Jen & I are contemplating taking a trip to Vicksburg just so she can eat there.

24 hours, 600+ miles, and a mild sunburn later (see below), I’m back at work, a little worse for the wear. The meeting went exceedingly well (why is it that when I use the word “exceedingly”, I always think about scripture?), and our clients seemed very pleased with our modeling results.

Other than dining at Walnut Hills, the thing that made the trip worthwhile was the fact that our rental car turned out to be a Chrysler Sebring convertible. Yeah, baybee! It was only my second time in a convertible, and my first time driving one. And since the weather was sunny, and the temperatures were perfect, we of course had to drive in style, all 600 miles with the top down. Boy, was that fun!

All in all, it was a job well done.

Garrisoning again!
