Lazy Sunday

"At the tone, the time will be 10:17PM and 20 seconds. *beep* At the tone, the time will be 10:17PM and 30 seconds. *beep*..."

Usually by this time of night, I'm feeling like the night is almost over yet I still have about 5,343,377 things to do on my Ever-Growing-Longer-and-Longer-To-Do List. By this time, the Kiddos are finally in bed, I've fulfilled my requisite quota of Family Time, and I finally get Time To Myself (TTM, for short). Thus I usually stay up later than I should trying to accomplish everything I wanted to do upon immediately coming home.

However, tonight happened to be an exception to the norm. I didn't have anything important or exciting slated on my List. Being a weekend, I had a good part of the afternoon to do whatever the hell I wanted. And I found myself actually somewhat bored for lack of having any tasks on hand. Earlier in the day, I had already made lunch for Jen & the Kiddos. I had already cleaned the kitchen and did the dishes. Yep, Jen sure was happy with me for doing that for her. I commented to her that I was nicely domesticated but you didn't hear that from me.

So instead of multitasking on several different projects at once as I'm usually doing at this time of night, I'm sitting here ripping some CDs and working on this Entry without a care in the world. Ok, so everything but the latter is the truth.

This weekend turned out to be quite wonderful, fairly relaxing, and relatively slow-paced. Yesterday I braved the crowds at Stuffmart and got some shopping done. I met up with Co-worker Buddy and we watched an afternoon showing of Die Another Day. I spent the evening doing Not Much At All. Today. other than accomplishing the tasks I mentioned above, I went on a short eleven mile bike ride along the Millennium Trail. It's these days that make me feel like it's truly great to be alive.

I'm extremely excited that tomorrow is the first night of volleyball at the community center. Having not had enough teams to start a league, the coordinator decided to hold several "open gym" nights to see if we could drum up some more interest and perhaps form teams from people interested in playing. This will be the first time in a long time that I've played volleyball. Not unlike table tennis, I'll be trying to reach a competitive level of play like I used to do. I still remember the Colorful Quarks, a team I played on in Fort Collins consisted of one of my ex-roommates and his physics colleagues. We started in the rec division but as we got better, we ended up competing in the competitive division and did not too shabbily. In Fort Collins, volleyball was fairly popular and the leagues were always busy year-round. For some reason down here in Little Rock, it's not quite so popular and I'm not exactly sure why.

We've come to the conclusion that our male cat MJ thinks he's a dog. For one, he's a big licker. All we have to do is put our face or fingers near his mouth and he licks us with his raspy, sandpapery tongue. He also loves going outside during the day. In fact, it's not uncommon for him to spend the entire day outside, coming in only to eat or grab a snack. But unlike a normal cat, if we need him to come inside, all we have to do is call for him and he'll come bounding up. Such a good kitty we have. But he does exhibit the well-documented cat trait of Laziness. If he's on the front porch and wants to go to the back deck (or vice versa), he'll meow or paw at the door to be let in, and then casually saunter to the other exit and then meow to be let out. Yessiree, he has got us trained well.

And with that, another Sunday comes to a close and the work week begins.
