The Day After
Saturday, April 13, 2002
Well, it's the Day After the Beginning, and I've managed to keep my promise of writing something everyday so far. (I know...big challenge, only the second day right now, but oftentimes the start of a routine is the hardest.) Off to a good start!!  I've gone back and read my Entry-That-Started-This-Whole-Thing and for the most part, I'm satisfied with it.  However, my Inner Critic keeps debating with me as much as I try to ignore It.  I am trying to resist the urge to go back and edit and re-write, and spend an inordinate amount of time to make it "perfect".  Because I know that it will never be "perfect", at least not to my liking.  So the Beginning stays the way it is and it's now upward & onward to another Entry.

Even though I am going to try very hard not to edit my actual journal entries per se, I do see my main page evolving and changing as time progresses.  I'm not entirely satisfied with the layout right now, and there are definitely things (links) I want to add to it.  But like I said in the Beginning, I need to start somewhere or else this project will never get off the ground.  So my fellow Traveler, expect to see new things pop up from time to time or even complete facelifts as well.  I do know that I want to link to web sites that I frequent, and add a section listing what I am currently listening/reading/watching/etc (like most other bloggers), as I think these give you, my fellow Traveler, more insight into who I Am, and what makes me - Me.  (Inner Affirmer gently reminding me, "small steps, small steps").  I am thinking I may put my listening/reading/watching/etc section as part of every entry, that way at least I have a log of when I those events occurred.

Today was spent exploring the Lorance Creek Natural Area with Those I Love and Live With (TILaLW).  That's not to be confused with Those I Love but Don't Live With.  It was a good learning experience for Ariel.  And Braden had fun pressing the button on the display that played a tape replicating the sound of a tree frog that sounds like a bird.  One of these days, Traveler, I will introduce you formally to these Travelers who have become permanent companions with me along my Journey.  But that is a tale for Another Day.

Other Notable Events of the Day:

  • Spontaneously took TILaLW to see the movie Snow Dogs in the N. City on our way back to Town.
  • Biked 15.5 miles over mostly roads & some gravel/dirt/mud trails w/ an avg speed of 13.9mph.  (Total miles ridden since 1/01/02:  somewhere btw 50 and 100 - exact number still TBD; Total miles ridden since Sept 2001:  208.9)
  • Assisted my father-in-law (FIL) with another 1 1/2 hr tech help phone session trying to get his modem to work.

Observation of the Day:

  • While returning to my Means of Transport at the grocery store, observed a woman driving a Chevy Blazer with her approximately 3-4-yr old son sitting in her lap.  <rant>WTH????  Does the concept of child endangerment never occur to these people?  Geez...same goes for seatbelts.  Why would anyone not wear a seatbelt when they have been proven time & time again to save lives?  Of course we are all skilled drivers in our own eyes and never would be involved in an accident that was our fault, but what about that idiot guy who felt he could drive after downing a few?  Or that other idiot guy who felt he was such a skilled driver that he was driving down the Interstate talking on his cell phone while reading a newspaper splayed across the steering wheel (I actually observed this first hand)?  Or the idiot lady who decided to pull a U-turn from the right lane suddenly in front of me (traveling in the the same direction as her mind you in the left lane)?  Or the other idiot lady who was cutting through the grocery parking lot between parked cars and nearly hit me because she never bothered to see if someone else was actually driving legally through the parking lot?  I can see getting in an accident because of inattentiveness and that is understandable, but some of these things I have witnessed firsthand are clearly acts of idiocy.</rant>

As I will be in Lafayette, Louisiana for the next couple of days on business-related travel, my next entry will not be posted until I return.  Dear Traveler, please wait for me until I come back - I'm sure I will have many more interesting tales to add.
