| Considering I *used* to be a pretty
avid reader, it's been kind of a shame that I haven't read very much lately.
After spending a good part of my day at work, and then trying to fulfill
all my other husbandry/fatherly responsibilities, I just haven't felt like
reading much in my spare time. It is one thing I *love* to do, don't
get me wrong, but lately I've felt as if I only have time to choose only
one or two things I really want to do and focus on those, namely bicycling
and table tennis, and just recently, writing. I really need to read
more, at least read a little before I go to bed at night.
Anyway, with my trip last week, I decided to take along a few books to read on the flight. So of course I raided my DW's collection of *60+* books that she has checked out from the public library. Hehehe. Ended up taking No Regrets: How Homeschooling Earned Me a Masters Degree at Age 16 by Alexandra Swann and The Real James Herriot by Jim Wight (his son). Since we were considering using The Calvert School curriculum to homeschool Ariel, thought it would be a good idea to read an account of someone who actually went through the program. Because Alexandra Swann studied year round beginning at 5 yrs old, she was able to complete 8th grade by the age of 10, and high school by the age of 12. She then went on to get a college degree by age 14 1/2, and a Masters degree by age 16. One of the benefits of being able to go at your own pace, and schooling year-round. I have just barely started The Real James Herriot, a biography written by his son. My DW suggested that I read his biography since he is one of the most famous authors of the 20th century. Reading about these authors that had a "late-start" in life gives me hope that perhaps it's not too late for me to be a famous writer. Hehe. It's been a decent day, but nothing happened to get very excited about. Even though we didn't get to go see Amelie, we did manage to go to the Cajun Festival and get 6# of crawfish to eat while listening to a band from Lafayette, LA. Ariel must have eaten almost 2# by herself, and even Braden enjoyed them. :) Not as good as the ones I had earlier this week in the Real Cajun Country, but not too bad. Next up tomorrow: Table Tennis
team tournament.
